When shopping on Rakuten Market, you will often see statements such as ``Up to 47x points!'', ``+4x with SPU!'', and ``10x when shopping around!''. There are quite a lot of people who are confused, "How many times am I after all?" and "What is the upper limit?"
In this article, we will explain the Rakuten point multiplier system as of March 2026 in a way that even beginners can understand, dividing it into three parts: SPU, shop shopping, and days with 5 and 0. Let's aim to go from "it seems like a good deal" to "I can calculate how many points I can get".
What does "point ◯ times" mean?
Rakuten Market's "Point ◯ times" means that you will receive ◯ points for every purchase of 100 yen excluding tax. In other words, with ``10x'', you can earn 100 points for a purchase of 1,000 yen excluding tax.
However, this is a confusing point. This “◯ times” is the total value of multiple campaigns. Roughly speaking, the following three things overlap.
- SPU (Super Point Up Program): Always up when using Rakuten Group services
- Shop shopping: Increase when you shop at multiple stores during super sale or shopping marathon period
- Days with 5 and 0: Upgrades when purchased with Rakuten Card on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th of every month
Each item has its own multiplier and upper limit points, so even if it says "up to 47x!", the multiplier won't reach that multiplier unless all conditions are met. On the other hand, you will not receive points for the amount that exceeds the maximum limit for each campaign.
SPU (Super Point Up Program) multiplier and upper limit
SPU is a program in which the more you use Rakuten Group services, the more points you receive at all times. As of March 2026, it will beup to 18 times.
We have summarized the main services and magnification rates.
| Service | Multiplier | Monthly maximum points | Conditions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rakuten member (regular points) | 1x | No upper limit | Be a Rakuten member |
| Rakuten Card (regular) | +2x | No upper limit | Pay with Rakuten Card |
| Rakuten Mobile | +4x | 2,000pt | Currently subscribed to Rakuten's strongest plan |
| Rakuten Turbo / Rakuten Hikari | +2x | 1,000pt | Currently using eligible plan |
| Rakuten Bank + Rakuten Card | +0.5x | Undisclosed | Debit from Rakuten Bank account |
| Rakuten Securities (Investment Trust) | +0.5x | 2,000pt | Point investment of 30,000 yen or more in the current month |
| Rakuten Securities (US stocks) | +0.5x | 2,000pt | Point investment of 30,000 yen or more in the month |
| Rakuten Travel | +1x | 1,000pt | Reservation/use of 5,000 yen or more during the applicable period |
| Rakuten Books | +0.5x | 500pt | Purchase 1,000 yen or more in the current month |
| Rakuten Kobo | +0.5x | 500pt | Purchase more than 1,000 yen in the current month |
| Rakuten Pasha | +0.5x | 500pt | Get more than 300pt in the month |
| Rakuten Fashion | +0.5x | 500pt | Purchase at least once this month from the app |
| Rakuten Beauty | +0.5x | 500pt | Spend more than 3,000 yen in the month |
| Rakuten Rakuma | +0.5x | 500pt | Purchase 3,000 yen or more in the current month |
This is important: The SPU multiplier is ``added up'', but the upper limit of points is determined for each service. For example, Rakuten Mobile's +4x offer is capped at 2,000 points per month. In other words, when you purchase 50,000 yen (excluding tax) on Rakuten Market, you will reach the upper limit for Rakuten Mobile points (50,000 yen x 4% = 2,000 points).
In short, even if the SPU multiplier is high, many services have a low upper limit, so in most cases it doesn't mean "18x, so you get 18% back!"
Shop shopping magnification and upper limit
The ``Shop Shopping'' held during the Rakuten Super Sale and Shopping Marathon period is a system in which the point multiplier increases according to the number of shops where you make purchases of 1,000 yen (tax included) or more during the period.
| Number of shops | Multiplier (usually included) | Bonus amount |
|---|---|---|
| 1 shop | 1x | None |
| 2 shops | 2x | +1x |
| 3 shops | 3x | +2x |
| 5 shops | 5x | +4x |
| 10 or more shops | 10x (upper limit) | +9x |
According to Rakuten Super SALE Official Guide, the point limit for the March 2026 event (March 4th to March 11th) is 10,000 points.
The upper limit is 10,000pt, so if you shop around at 10 shops (+9x), you will reach the upper limit at approximately 111,111 yen excluding tax (111,111 yen × 9% ≒ 10,000pt).
Common pitfalls:
- Even if you buy twice from the same shop, it will only be counted as "1 shop"
- Purchases less than 1,000 yen will not be counted in the number of shops
- Purchase in order does not matter. The multiplier will be applied to the total purchase amount during the period
- Shopping bonus points are limited-time points, and are awarded around the 15th of the following month, and expire at the end of the month following the grant date
Magnification and upper limit for "days with 5 and 0"
In the campaign held on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th of every month, you will receive +1x points (4x total) for Entry + Rakuten Card Payment.
According to Rakuten Card official campaign page, the breakdown of points is as follows.
- Normal points: 1x
- Rakuten Card regular portion: +2x
- Bonus for days with 5 and 0: +1x
- Total: 4x
Maximum point limit is 1,000 points per month. In other words, you can reach the upper limit with a purchase of 100,000 yen excluding tax (100,000 yen x 1% = 1,000 points).
Three points to note:
- Entry required: You will not receive points unless you enter from the campaign page. However, if you enter during the applicable day, purchases made before entry will also be eligible
- Rakuten card required: Not applicable with other payment methods
- Monthly limit of 1,000 points: People who buy hundreds of thousands of yen in a single sale will not benefit much. Suitable for everyday purchases
How much will you get in the end? Let's calculate with a concrete example
Based on the information so far, let's calculate in an actual case.
[Case] If a Rakuten Mobile + Rakuten Card user purchases a total of 30,000 yen (excluding tax) at 5 shops on "5 and 0 days" during the Super Sale
| Item | Magnification | Acquired points | Maximum check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal points | 1x | 300pt | No upper limit ✅ |
| Rakuten Card | +2x | 600pt | No upper limit ✅ |
| Rakuten Mobile (SPU) | +4x | 1,200pt | Up to 2,000pt per month ✅ |
| Shop shopping | +4x | 1,200pt | Within 10,000pt ✅ |
| Days with 5 and 0 | +1x | 300pt | Within 1,000pt per month ✅ |
| Total | 12x | 3,600pt |
In this case, the display is "12x" and you will receive 3,600 points (return rate 12%). Earning 3,600 yen worth of points back on a 30,000 yen purchase is a great deal.
However, if this user had purchased 50,000 yen worth of other items on Rakuten Market in the same month, Rakuten Mobile's +4x amount may already be close to the upper limit (2,000 points). The upper limit is managed on a monthly basis, so be careful when making bulk purchases in the latter half of the month.
Three tips to avoid losing out on point multiplier
1. Be aware that "display magnification" and "actual magnification" are different
Even if it says "20x points" on the product page, that is the maximum value if "you meet all SPU conditions, shop at 10 or more shops, and buy on days with 5 and 0." Check which conditions you actually meet on the SPU achievement status page.
2. Understand campaigns with lower limits first
The upper limit for "days with 5 and 0" is 1,000pt per month. Rakuten Books and Kobo's SPU is capped at 500 points. These can easily reach the upper limit with purchases of 100,000 yen to 200,000 yen excluding tax. If you are making a big purchase, it is better to use card basic points (+2x) with no limit or shop shopping with a high limit (10,000 points).
3. Be careful not to forget your entry
Entry is required for "days with 5 and 0" and some SPUs (such as those related to Rakuten Mobile). You will not receive bonus points even if you purchase without entry. An entry button will be displayed on the top page of the Rakuten Market app, so be sure to tap it before making a purchase.
FAQ
Q. If I shop at the same shop twice during Rakuten Super Sale, will it be treated as two shops?
No. Multiple purchases from the same shop will be counted as "1 shop". If you want to increase the number of shops, you will need to make a purchase of 1,000 yen (tax included) or more at another shop.
Q. Can I really get "47x points"?
Theoretically it is possible, but the maximum value is if you meet all SPU conditions, shop around at 10 or more stores, and also receive shop-specific point increases. For most people, 10 to 15 times is a realistic line.
Q. How can I check if the point multiplier limit has been reached?
You can check from Rakuten Market's "Points Achievement Page' or SPU Achievement Status page. However, since there is a time lag in the reflection of bonus points (for a limited time), it is currently difficult to accurately check in real time. You can get a rough idea of the points you are likely to earn by shopping around by checking the "See breakdown" on the product page.
Q. If I forget to enter the "day with 5 and 0", will I not receive points?
If you enter on the target days (5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th), purchases made before entry will also be eligible. However, if you enter on another day, you will not be eligible, so please enter on the same day after shopping.
