What are Claude Projects?
Do you know about Claude's "project" function? This is a function that allows you to upload PDF and text files all at once and have a conversation with AI based on their contents.
Roughly speaking, it feels like "you can ask the AI after preparing for it." For example, you can use it like this:
- Load the company manual (PDF) and "Create an FAQ for new employees"
- Include 5 papers and "summarize common conclusions"
- Include all meeting minutes and make a list of this month's decisions.
It is similar to ChatGPT's "GPTs", but Claude's feature is that it can read a significantly larger amount of text at once.
How to create a project [3 steps]
Step 1: Create a new project
Log in to claude.ai and click "Projects" → "Create Project" on the left sidebar. Enter a project name and brief description.
Step 2: Upload files
Upload files from "Add content" on the project screen. Supported formats:
- Text file (.txt, .md)
- Code (.py, .js, .ts, etc.)
- CSV
You can also paste text directly. It is also possible to add pages from the company Wiki by copying and pasting.
Step 3: Start a chat within your project
Once you've added your files, simply start a new chat within your project. Answers will be given based on the contents of the uploaded materials.
Setting "custom instructions" increases accuracy
Projects can have "Custom instructions". By writing the prerequisites and output rules for the AI here, you can save yourself the trouble of repeatedly giving instructions for each question.
For example:
- "Please write your answer in Japanese in desu/masu tone"
- "Please be sure to clearly state the name of the referenced material"
- "Please keep your answer concise and within 200 characters"
When using it for work, it is also effective to paste the "in-house glossary" in custom instructions.

Organizing work materials: Put together all past reports and manuals and ask, ``Tell me about your past response policy for 〇〇.'' It can be used as an internal knowledge base.
Studying/Exam Preparation: Insert textbooks and reference books in PDF format and instruct them to ``write down the main points in this range'' and ``make 5 mock questions.'' Become your own AI tutor.
Blog/Media Management: You can put past articles together and use them for quality control by ``suggesting topics you haven't written about yet'' and ``checking for content that contradicts this article.''

Can I use the project with the free plan?
The project feature is available on Claude Pro ($20/month) and above plans. It cannot be used with the free plan.
Will the uploaded materials be used for AI training?
Anthropic (the developer of Claude) clearly states in its Privacy Policy that data uploaded by users will not be used for AI training. You can use it with confidence even for business data.
How many files can be included in one project?
There is no strict upper limit on the number of files, but there is a limit on the total amount of text in the context window. Inputting too many PDFs can slow down the process, so we recommend narrowing down to highly relevant documents.
