There are so many different PIN numbers that you can't figure them out
Do you remember There are 4 types of PIN numbers for your My Number card?
- Password for digital certificate for signature (6 to 16 alphanumeric characters) — Used for tax returns and convenience store issuance
- Password for electronic certificate for user certification (4 digits) — Used for Mynaportal login
- Password for Basic Resident Register (4 digits) — Used for moving-in notifications, etc.
- PIN number to assist in entering information on the card (4 digits) — Used to read personal information
In addition, there are probably many people who have set the last three to the same number. It's natural to wonder, "Which one is which?"
It's okay if you forget. You can reset the settings at your local municipal office.
Password reset procedure
Step 1: Go to your municipal office
Go to the "My Number Card Counter" at your local municipal office. Some municipalities require advance reservations, so please check the My Number Card General Website or the website of your local municipality.
Step 2: Bring what you need
- My number card body (required)
- Identification documents (driver's license, insurance card, etc.) *May not be necessary depending on the local government
If you are going in person, all you need is a card.
Step 3: Request to "reset your PIN" at the counter
Simply tell the counter that you have forgotten your PIN and would like to reset it. You can set a new PIN on the spot. The time required isabout 5 to 10 minutes.
Same procedure if locked by mistake 3 times
If you enter the wrong PIN code 3 times in a row, it will be locked (5 times for signature). The process for unlocking and resetting at the municipal office is the same.
Please note that it cannot be unlocked from a multi-copy machine at a convenience store or the Mynaportal app on a smartphone. You must go to the counter.
Tips for remembering your PIN code
Record it in the memo app on your smartphone
It is best to save it in a locked memo so that others cannot see it. If you have an iPhone, you can password lock it using the "Memo" app.
Make all three types of 4-digit PIN the same
When resetting, it is also possible to use the same number for ``User Certification'', ``Basic Resident Register'', and ``Ticket Information Entry Assistance''. There are really only two things to remember.
Be especially careful about signatures, as they are easy to forget, including English characters.
Since they are only used during the tax return season (February to March), there are many cases where you try to use them for the first time in a year and find that you have forgotten them.
FAQ
Is there a fee for resetting the PIN?
It's free. No matter how many times you reset it, there is no cost.
Can a proxy reconfigure the settings?
As a general rule, you must go to the counter in person. However, if the person in question is unable to attend due to illness or disability, there are local governments where a legal representative or a representative with a power of attorney can complete the procedure. Please contact the municipality where you live in advance.
Can I reset the settings in time just before filing my tax return?
You can reset your tax return on the same day at the counter, so you can make it in time even if you are at the last minute of your tax return deadline. However, the counters are crowded during tax return season (February to March), so we recommend filing early.
