6 reasons why you can't cancel sending
If the "Cancel Send" button does not appear, or if you cannot cancel by tapping it, the following may be the cause:
1. More than an hour has passed since the message was sent
From November 2025, free users can only unsend within one hour of sending. After one hour, the "Cancel sending" menu will no longer be displayed and "Delete" will be the only option left.
2. I pressed "Delete" instead of "Cancel Send"
LINE has two functions: "Undo sending" and "Deleting", but if you don't know the difference between them, you'll be in trouble.
- Unsend: The message disappears from both your and the other party's chat screens
- Delete: Disappears only from your chat screen (remains visible to the other party)
If you select "Delete", the message will remain displayed on the other party's screen. Moreover, once you execute "Delete", the message disappears from your screen, so you cannot switch to "Undo Send" from there.
3. The version of the LINE app is old
The send cancellation function is supported in LINE version 7.12.0 or later. If the other party's LINE version is an older version, the cancellation may not be reflected correctly. You can also download your own apps from App Store or Google Please update to the latest version with Play.
4. Unstable communication environment
Send cancellation operation requires communication with the server. Cancellation may not be completed in areas where the signal is weak or Wi-Fi is unstable. Please try again in a stable communication environment.
5. There is no partner in the talk room (withdrawal/block)
If the other party has deleted their LINE account or blocked you, the cancellation process may not be reflected correctly. However, it will be displayed as canceled from your chat screen.
6. Temporary server failure

The correct way to cancel sending (latest 2026)

- Press and hold the message you want to cancel
- Tap “Cancel Send” from the menu that appears
- Tap “Cancel Send” again on the confirmation screen
The message will now disappear from both your and the other party's chat screens. However, the message ``○○ canceled sending the message'' will remain on the other party's chat screen. In other words, the other party will know that you canceled something.
Also, if a push notification was displayed on the other party's smartphone before you canceled it, the beginning of the message may remain in the notification field. Remember that unsend is not a panacea.

4 things to do if you can't cancel
An hour has passed or you pressed "Delete"... Here's what you can do if you can't undo it anymore.
Solution 1: Try canceling the send from another device
Even if you press "Delete" on your smartphone, if you log in to another device such as PC version of LINE or iPad version of LINE, the message may still be there. If you can "cancel sending" from another device, you can also delete it from the other party's chat screen. However, you must operate within 1 hour (within 7 days for LYP Premium).
Countermeasure 2: Immediately send an apology/correction message
If you can't cancel in time, it's best to follow up honestly rather than trying to mislead.

Solution 3: Do not delete the chat room
Some people panic and delete the entire chat room, but this is no good. Deleting a chat room has no effect on the other party's chat screen. Your chat history will simply disappear, but the problem will not be resolved.

If I cancel sending, will the other person find out?
Yes, I will find out. If you are a free user, "○○ canceled sending your message" will be displayed on the other party's chat screen. Only if you are a LYP Premium member and the recipient has not read it, you can cancel without leaving this message.
Is it absolutely impossible to cancel after 1 hour?
If you are a free user, you cannot cancel the send after 1 hour. If you subscribe to LYP Premium (508 yen per month), you will be able to cancel messages within 7 days of sending. However, it does not apply to messages sent before joining.
Will the content of the push notification be revealed even if I cancel sending?
